Audit and Assurance

When the need for assurance related services arise, a small business owner or individual typically has a clear understanding of their needs; however, identifying the type of service by an accountant that will satisfy those needs can be confusing.  That's when we can help.  We would welcome the opportunity to discuss your needs and the most cost effective type of service that will fulfill those needs.  Our website contains some detailed information about assurance services for those who would like a more detailed understanding of these services.

Understanding the types of audits and assurance services that accountants offer can be confusing.  One reason for the confusion is the concept of attestation and assurance as used in the accounting profession.   An accountant can perform various types of services that provide varying levels of assurance.  Common examples of attestation engagements are audits of financial statements, reviews of financial statements, and agreed-upon procedures.  In each engagement, the accountant's report includes an assertion about information or reports that was created by another party.  Visit our audit, review, and compilation services page or our agreed upon procedures page for additional information on these services.  The fact that an accountant issues a report in connection with an engagement does not imply that assurance is being provided.  A compilation engagement includes a report that does not provide any assurance on the accompanying financial statements and it is therefore considered a non-assurance engagement.

In summary, the accounting profession has changed considerably in recent years with regard to audit and assurance services.  These changes have resulted in a wide range of new services that many business owners and individuals are not aware of.  Please call or email us if you have any questions about the above mentioned services.
